about task analysis

Thoughts

First time I get to know how to do task analysis was ENP161 human factors in product design. Back then, the professor used a how to make spaghetti example taught us the basic process of task analysis.

Back then, I realize the way we make spaghetti is slightly different, but it's essentially same. You might like to add some olive oil, and he might need to boil it 5 minutes longer. However, it's still a spaghetti.

Even the substeps might change slightly, the overall process is basically what we except. With the task analysis, you could find something you never thought of. For example, to improve the taste of spaghetti, there're many steps you could try to modify like the quality and quantity of the water, timing, and heat. If you gonna write a perfect recipe for spaghetti, it provides a new perspective. You will never look at substeps carefully like this if you not working on spaghetti task analysis.

Task analysis is the process of breaking a skill down into smaller, more manageable components. It's sometimes complicated, but it's also a way of learning about ordinary users and actions, understanding in detail so that we could perform tasks in a better way.
