Develop initial user interface concepts for the GE-IQ Smart Fridge Mobile App
User Research
The design enables users to perform the following functions which is determined by the result of survey:
Monitor and adjust the refrigerator and freezer temperature
View a live video feed of the inside of the fridge
View, modify, and create shopping lists
Write a custom note that will appear on the fridge’s display
View a list of expiry reminders
Control Spotify playback
Search and save online recipes
Homepage design depends on the need of users and technology. I decided to put expired food, notes and customize favorite features section in the homepage. For the rest of the design, please see design details.
Design Details
This Interfaces focus on users' experience. We designed certain interactions such as swipe to the left and swiped down. Every interaction page such as camera view has an arrow hint to guide users. In order to make our interface easy to use and learn, we used different icons and proper interaction buttons. It would make our app more intuitive.
For easy use purpose, I put users' favorite features on the homepage, as well as two small widgets : music and timer. Users could adjust or set up new features display on the homepage. In this way, users would have a highly efficient experience with a great amount of satisfaction.
I categorized functions of the GE fridge according to our user research. The first recipes function includes saved and online recipes. Users could pin, save or search the recipes, as well as quick shopping button for ingredients.
The food function includes food reminder and shopping functions. Users could edit the shopping list and show it on the fridge screen.
Fridge Functions includes the camera view of the fridge and dashboard setting, temperature, and note manage.
As for color selection, I decided to use white as main color, with some decoration of red and orange. White could give users a clean and simple feel. Some platinum and eerie black could provide a sense of welcome and project energy. The interfaces leave the brand in the top center, where users would look at it without feeling stressed.
